Depression

Depression affects 10% of the population or 19 million Americans in a given year.  Like anxiety, women are more likely to suffer from depression then men.  It is estimated that depression occurs in 12% of women and 6.6% of men.  Fortunately Depression is highly treatable.  In fact; 80-90% of patients improve with treatment.

 

      Symptoms of Depression include:

 

  • Feelings of hopelessness and pessimism
  • Inability to concentrate, difficulty making decisions
  • Restlessness
  • Insomnia or over sleeping
  • Appetite increase or decrease/weight loss or weight gain
  • Unexplained aches or pains/Chronic Pain
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Fatigue or Chronic Fatigue
  • Feelings of guilt and worthlessness
  • Loss of interest in activities and hobbies once found pleasurable and enjoyable
  • Loss of interest in sex
  • Drug or alcohol abuse (self medicating)
  • Recurring thoughts of suicide
