Depression
affects 10% of the population or 19 million Americans in a given year. Like anxiety,
women are more likely to suffer from depression then men. It is estimated that
depression occurs in 12% of women and 6.6% of men. Fortunately Depression is
highly treatable. In fact; 80-90% of patients improve with treatment.
Symptoms of Depression include:
- Feelings of hopelessness and pessimism
- Inability to concentrate, difficulty making decisions
- Restlessness
- Insomnia or over sleeping
- Appetite increase or decrease/weight loss or weight gain
- Unexplained aches or pains/Chronic Pain
- Digestive Disorders
- Fatigue or Chronic Fatigue
- Feelings of guilt and worthlessness
- Loss of interest in activities and hobbies once found pleasurable and enjoyable
- Loss of interest in sex
- Drug or alcohol abuse (self medicating)
- Recurring thoughts of suicide
